Matan was a gentle and quiet boy with a round face and a pair of glasses. He drafted to the Golani Brigade. On October 7th, he fought with extraordinary bravery when he found himself in an impossible situation. Matan and his fellow soldiers were in their APC (armored personnel carrier) when they came under heavy fire – they were a few against dozens of terrorists. Matan was the first to dare to exit the APC and return fire, inspiring other soldiers to follow in his footsteps. He jumped on a grenade that was thrown into the APC, knowing he was sacrificing his life as a last gift to his friends who were saved because of him. His chilling last words left a testament for all of us.
