Yaakov grew up in an ultra-Orthodox family, loved studying Torah, and was considered a prodigy. When he decided to become secular and enlist into the army, his parents supported him all the way and showered him with unconditional love. On the night of the massacre, he and his soldiers happened to be sleeping in a temporary place near Nahal Oz, and on the morning of the massacre, Yaakov commanded them in an inspiring way. They fought and repelled many terrorists. Yaakov was wounded, fell, continued to fight, and eliminated terrorists while lying wounded on the ground, until his last breath.
